There’s something special about seeing heavy music in a proper rock shop. No massive production, no arena-sized spectacle, just a room, some loud amps, a crowd of metalheads, and bands doing what they do best. That’s exactly the kind of energy we’re looking forward to at the third annual Rock Shop Halloween Blood Bash in Vancouver.

Presented by Rock Shop Experience Vancouver, this year’s event lands on Thursday, October 29, with Butcher and Druin bringing the heavy for a Halloween night built for fans of the darker side of music.

Headlining the evening are Butcher, taking centre stage for a night that promises to deliver the goods for Vancouver’s metal community. Sharing the bill is Druin, a band we’re especially excited to see on this lineup.

For anyone who has spent time around the underground scene, the appeal of a show like this is obvious. It’s about the bands, the volume, the atmosphere, and being in a room with people who are there because they love the music. Druin being part of the night makes this one particularly worth checking out.

And with Butcher headlining, the event has all the makings of a Halloween show that stays true to the spirit of heavy music.

Druin

Hailing from Vancouver, Druin operate in the darker, heavier corners of Post Doom, blending doom, sludge, post-metal, and progressive metal into a sound built on crushing guitar riffs, immersive passages, and dark, expansive soundscapes. The band features seasoned musicians with roots in projects including The Nautilus, Kataplexis, The Post War, Dungeons, Zodiac N Black and more, bringing serious experience to their own distinctive take on heavy music.

Druin released their EP, The Goat Whispering in the Panther’s Ear, on August 14, 2024. The release showcases the band’s approach to heavy music, balancing punishing riffs with atmospheric depth and a progressive edge. Tracks like “Counterfeit Cigarettes,” “Sailing Stones,” and “Die With a Pound of Dirt” offer a taste of what Druin bring to the table.

We’re especially excited to see our friends in Druin bringing that sound to the Rock Shop Halloween Blood Bash. They’re a band worth getting familiar with, and catching them live in an intimate setting like this is a great way to experience what they’re all about. If you’re into your metal heavy, Doom, Post Doom, dark, and immersive, Druin deserve a spot on your radar.

A Rock Shop Show Just Hits Different

We love the idea of this one: live bands playing right inside a rock shop on Granville Street. It’s a chance to get close to the action, feel the amps in the room, and experience the kind of raw, up-close live music that makes smaller shows so memorable.

That’s what makes the Halloween Blood Bash such a cool concept. It brings the focus back to live music and the community around it, with a Halloween twist. Costumes are encouraged, door prizes are up for grabs, and admission is completely free.

Whether you’re a longtime fixture in Vancouver’s metal scene or just looking for a different kind of Halloween night, this is an opportunity to support live music, catch some heavy bands, and experience the scene in a setting that puts the music front and centre.
